Spotted visitors

Our elk pod is back again, returned from wherever it is that they go to calve. There are four babies again this year helping keep the grass under control with their mamas. They’re just as dumb as the calves always seem to be which makes them all the more fun to watch.

My husband and I walked out on the deck last night and watched them for a while. The biting bugs were out in force, fortunately targeting the elk instead of us. All of the buying sent the calves into scratching mode with a few thinking that jumping and bucking would help even more. When one would get to flailing about and end up running there was always a second chasing behind, playing this new game.

They’re still too young to just toss their heads back and run for the joy of running, that seems to be more of a teenager behavior. Something to look forward to with four little ones around.
