typewriter, technology

I have officially learned more than I ever wanted to know about the Windows Registry. It was useful data - I was able to solve the problem I created for myself and even get solutions to 2 other problems as well. Unfortunately, I know that this is going to bite me in the ass later.

It's nearly inevitable that I'll get asked a question by a family member that I'll know just enough to make worse. And they'll expect help because "I work in technology." Trying to explain to someone you're related to that you work on server and specific applications that you have training for is nearly impossible when all they hear is "blah blah, technology, blah blah blah." The glazed look in their eyes gives it away every time.

Don't get me wrong - it's not that I don't want to help, it's just that I don't know what the heck I'm doing with app xyz other than what Google tells me. Of course, just knowing about Google is sometimes a boon. But wading through millions of pages about tripe is not the way that I want to spend my time. Especially if just calling the 800 number on the box will solve the problem in 5 minutes.
