It is devastatingly cold outside. I don't mean that in a metaphorical way, but rather in a literal one. See, it's not just the temperature that makes it so cold. What we have is the opposite of all those horrible jokes about Arizona - "but it's a dry heat!" This is a wet cold. I am afraid to look at the actual humidity percentage. What good would that do? My brain would probably explode trying to wrap itself around the perceived temperature.

I've been trying to remember the last time it was this cold up here, and the best I can come up with is the winter about 15 years ago when a front from Alaska brought snow and power outages. In fact, they're predicting 6-10 inches of snow around my house. I really should go stock up on food. We have enough groceries for a week, but... I guess I'm just a little paranoid. The northwest just isn't prepared for weather like this. We don't have the infrastructure in place to manage snow on the roads. The power companies can't handle mass outages. I have a gas furnace, but it's powered by an electric thermostat. I guess I'll just have to plan for the worst and hope for the best.
