Just a reminder for me and some others (you know who you are). From Money, how to know when to leave a job:

Because the trouble with waiting – to vest, to retire, to get promoted – is that it doesn't always pay off. There's nothing stopping employers from letting you go five minutes before you reach your goal. And the terms of your exit will be theirs, not yours.

True, but you'd have a better case for a wrongful termination suit if you were fired five minutes before your promotion kicked in or your stock vested or you were eligible for annual profit sharing or whatever.
