We're going househunting this weekend. I really wish that this process would end soon, but it can't really. There are still too many variables to look at and too many things to consider. What I'm hoping is that we'll fall in love with one of the houses we see this weekend and can just call it done. I'm not very optimistic about the prospect, but I can keep hoping. If only there were some way to actually find things out from the web about building a house, it would be so much easier. But fot this whole industry, it's like a big secret society. You have to rely on word of mouth or get screwed. But there's no way to find out if you're getting screwed because getting actual hard data requires an hours interview with someone who wants to hem and haw and hedge their bets just in case. This just makes any number fuzzy, and we're trying to fit this all into what we can afford instead of winging it and running out of money half way through. Damn our crazy expectations of using a budget!
Of course, this would all be easier if any one of the half dozen people I've talked to with references would actually give me a name or number instead of hoarding it like it's gold. Damn guild-like construction industry.
